GEIST is set in a ca. 1900s blacksmith shop in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Nashville. It's history as a blacksmith shop played a huge role in its current reincarnation as a bar + restaurant as the owner, Doug Martin, wanted to maintain as much of the space's integrity as possible. (The original anvil from the blacksmith shop sits outside the front door to welcome guests as they arrive.)
Due to the history of the space, we knew that we had no other choice than to recreate the typeface already provided to us on the front of the building itself for the space's main wordmark. We also incorporated icon elements of the anvil and original horseshoe that hangs above the bar. A lot of the patterns and textures were pulled from the interior of the space itself.
We created business cards, a website, post card check presenters, a historic plaque for the site (as it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980) as well as retail items.
Might we also add that their cocktails are some of the prettiest we've seen about town.
